Hartington Creamery is one of the six Stilton producers in the world that have Protected Designation of Original, which means they're the only creameries allowed to call their cheese Stilton. Amongst other things, they all have to be based in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire or Leicestershire.

The original Hartington Creamery was established in 1870 by the Duke of Devonshire. It's since changed hands a couple of times and closed briefly in 1900 and more recently in 2009.

In  2012, the new Hartington Creamery Limited made its first cheese, Peakland Blue, at the historic Pikehall Farm, in the heart of the Peak District Park.

Peakland Blue is a semi hard yellow cheese with blue veins, similar to a Stilton. It's a mild cheese with a delicious blue flavour.
